We've been dreaming of heading to the beach since January...so vacation could not come soon enough!
We joined Craig's family for a week in the Outer Banks. We left Saturday night June 26th at midnight and drove all night. We arrived in Nags Head at about 7am. The boys slept most of the way, though Connor really tried to stay away. He only slept a little...and was so proud that he "stayed up until morning!" Craig and I were dead dog tired...but the boys were ready to go. We sat down for a bit and then got changed and headed out to the poll. It was awesome.
The beach was not crowded at all. This was the busiest day of all...plenty of room for everyone.
We stayed in a great house with a pool...but the boys were really drawn to the sand and surf.
(that's our house behind Sawyer)
Connor spent hours playing in the sand and building forts and castles.
He loved it when Craig would help out. We bought the boys heavy duty shovels before we left. They worked great for the industrial strength building that was being done.
We could walk right out to the beach from our house. We ended up going back and forth quite a few times. On one trip, I took this picture of Connor. I was underneath the staircase leading to the house..Connor was walking up the steps and paused to give me a smile. It is one of my very favorites!
Here's Sawyer sporting the sandy smile. At the beginning of the week, Sawyer really was not too into the beach, but by the end of the week...oh, my. He couldn't get enough.
The master at work.
This little guy got his first taste of the beach. Literally...he kept eating the sand. He'd drop his sea shell...then lick the sand off. Ewww. He would just laugh when I would tell him no, no, no...then he'd wag his finger at me and say...no, no, no.
We tried to keep him under and umbrella and in the shade as much as possible. He has such fair skin...we didn't want him to burn. He did get a little farmers tan though.
Jackson loved the sand too. His favorite thing was to make sand water soup with his Aunt Lynn. He would spend hours filling buckets with water and sand...then dumping the gooey mess all over the place!
Occassionally, Jackson would allow Connor to help in the making of his culinary treat...Mitchell just snuck in and took over.
Our Gabby-girl. Boy do we love her. She did not get too much time in her chair this trip. The boys were alwasy bugging her to play with them. She was awesome with them...thank you Gabby for letting the boys bug you all the time!
Sawyer really digs Gabby. Ever since Gabby helped him in the pool at home on Memorial Day, he calls it Gabby's pool. Well, at the beach...it was Gabby's beach house, Gabby's pool, Gabby's beach...and occassionally...Gabby's world. Oh, my! Can you say infatuation?
Take a look at this skinny dude. You would think he hadn't had three hot dogs, pretzels, carrots and chocolate chip cookies for lunch.
Grandma and Sawyer hand in hand. So sweet!
I love this picture of Connor...he looks so grown up. He loved running all over the beach!
Grandma was a big part of our great vacation too. The boys adore her. Here she is on Connor's birthday reading him the book she got him as part of his gift. It was a hit!
There are more pictures to come...I just haven't gone through them all!
