If it's potential...then yup, you could see what we saw.
For the last couple of years, Craig had been wanted to open up the wall above the stove.
There used to be a window there...but about 30 years ago, Craig's parents re-did the kitchen and closed off the window. (You couldn't really see anything except into the summer kitchen)
Anyway...Saturday Aunt Lynn, Uncle Dwight and Grandma took the older three to a train display...Mitchell was napping. So...
This is the best before picture I got.
Craig cleaned out the range hood first. As you can see it was a little dirty. Ewww.
Along the way, we cleaned out all the cupboards...and turned off the electricity to that side of the room.
Out came the fan....
Here is Craig attacking it from the other side. This is our laundry area/mud room
The man in motion...
My Dad showed up at just the right time.
Craig was trying to pull the hood out...
Tah-da.
If you look up near my Dad's head...you can see the beginning of the opening.
Yeah!
It's getting bigger....
Almost there.
Now you can see the reason we wanted to do this. The rec room is on the other side of the mud room. We spend a lot of time in there now....but can't see it from the kitchen. So, let's just say the boys might be fighting in the rec room...well, we have to stop what we're doing in the kitchen...go into the rec room and referree. Usually what ever was going on in the beginning is over by the time we get there.
Now, we can see all.
Just one cabinet standing between us and a complete opening.
This brick wall is the original exterior wall of the house. I love it.
About three quarters of the way through the process, Mitchell woke up.
He and I played in the rec room...next to the roaring fire...while Dad and Craig kept working.
Mr. Mitchell did not want to pose for a picture!
Just about there.
We've got more finish work to do...but it's awesome to this point!
The boys even liked it!
Way to go Craig.
